City of arcades: Bologna
07 January 2022
Bologna's porticoes have been officially nominated as Italy's candidate to the UNESCO World Heritage Lists in 2020. I think that was very good decision.
My trip last December was weird, because I thought I'll fell in love with Florence but I didn't. The city had too touristic feel for me, our apartment issue didn't help at all.
But the moment I left the train station in Bologna I felt it. Totally different vibe of the city. And I fully resonated with it.
It's funny how surprising travels can be. You look at photos, read articles and are sure it would mesmerize you, but when you get there - it's not. And then some place that was picked up by chance grips your heart and makes it beat faster. Lisboa vs Porto, Chang Mai vs Bangkok, Tokio vs Kyoto and now Bologna vs Florance.
Is it mean that others were worse? Of course not. Just at this time we were looking for something else even if we didn't know that yet.
Our host said: 'You go for history in Florence. But you go to Bologna for food'. And I'll always choose good food over Michaelangelo. Sorry for that :)
